Canada's national sheep traceability program
SheepTrace: Protecting Canada's Sheep Sector.
The Canadian Sheep Federation is assuming stewardship of the national sheep identification and traceability program — to be powered by AgroLedger™, a made-in-Canada digital platform built for producers.
A new chapter for sheep traceability in Canada.
Since 2004, the Canadian Sheep Identification Program (CSIP) has been the backbone of national sheep traceability. Over the next 3 months, the Canadian Sheep Federation will assume stewardship of the newly minted SheepTrace program — replacing legacy systems with AgroLedger™, a secure, producer-owned digital platform that exceeds federal regulatory requirements and puts real management value back in producers' hands.
Powered by AgroLedger™
Traceability that works for producers, not just regulators.
AgroLedger™ is a secure, made-in-Canada digital ecosystem developed by the Canadian Sheep Federation and 100% owned by Canadian sheep farmers and ranchers. It goes beyond compliance — giving producers real-time data, rapid disease response capability, and management insights that help them run better operations.
Accurate, real-time data sharing across the supply chain
Rapid response capability in the event of a disease outbreak
User-friendly, enhanced, value-added functionality
Farm-to-fork traceability — the backbone of a larger digital ecosystem
A landmark designation
CSF confirmed as Responsible Administrator.
In September 2026, the Canadian Sheep Federation and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) finalized the Responsible Administrator Agreement for national sheep traceability under Part XV of the Health of Animals Regulations. The agreement sets in motion the transition that will see CSF assume responsibility for administering Canada’s national sheep identification and traceability program — the culmination of more than two decades of involvement in its delivery.
